Well, that’s it for today! Here are all of the sources for this space: ![]() If you are on the fence about black built-in bookshelves I highly recommend going for it! I was a bit nervous to go with black built-in bookshelves but once I started painting them I could see what I had in mind start coming to life and was so glad I went for it! If you notice there are two sets of white wingback chairs in these photos it’s because we are still playing a little bit of musical furniture in the house! But I have to admit, once it arrived I actually think the coloring of it looks so pretty in here and it really is comfortable and I love the clean lines of it to balance the tufting of the one opposite it so I think it ended up being a win/win for all of us! So, in theory function won out over form initially. I had my heart set on this leather one, but my family thought this one would be much more comfortable and the fact that it shipped quickly (it was delivered just one week after we ordered it!) was a HUGE factor seeing how the one I wanted isn’t even in stock right now. With that in mind, once we knew we were moving and knew we were going to purchase a leather sofa for this house I started the hunt for one. My husband has been wanted either a leather sofa or leather chairs for years. We knew we wanted to go with two sofas in this space but didn’t want to have to buy two new ones so we decided to use this tufted one and then pair it with a leather one. JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. Here’s another angle of this room before: I also swapped out the knobs for these ones. I then let it cure for a little over a week before putting any of the items back into the bookshelf. To paint them I first did one coat of tinted primer (you can see a shot of that in our stories highlights on instagram titled “New House”) and then three coats of Black Magic by SW in a satin finish. I initially planned on reworking some of the trim on the bookshelves but decided to go ahead and just paint them to start with and now that they are painted I don’t know if I will bother to rework them anymore. There are few minor things we will be changing (like eventually we will go with a larger coffee table in here and use this in a conversation area in the room adjacent to this one, and we are still waiting for the tufted sofa to be recovered, and I’d like to add picture lights to the top of the bookshelves, as well as a few other things) but overall this room is pretty close to where we want it!įor this room it was really just painting, swapping the fan for a chandelier and then adding in our furniture and accessories. This room is the one in our new home that is closest to being finished. Occasionally chaotic and confusing, colorful, holding rocks in every pocket, perhaps fanciful, and full of deep ideas and poetry.Good morning! Today I am going to share some pictures of our new living room with the freshly painted black built-in bookshelves flanking the fireplace. Thus, I feel that this art piece of a bookshelf has come to partially represent who I am. My bookshelf itself has become an art piece, showcasing art, crystals, family photos, and treasures I’ve collected. ![]() Perhaps a requirement as an artist, I also have a collection of art and other instructional books, many living near my paints. The Association of Small Bombs by Karan Mahajan, while perhaps not a favorite, also takes pride of place. Maas, Graceling by Kristin Cashore, and The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh. Others don’t live on my bookshelf but remain favorites nonetheless, such as the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Many of my favorites remain fantasy adventure novels, and those, too, live in pride of place on my shelves or make a comforting presence by my bedside, such as my childhood favorites and signed copies of Tamora Pierce books, the books that inspired my childhood adventures. ![]() Of course, having some intense effect on me wasn’t a requirement for my favorite books. ![]() For me, they widened the scope of what was possible in myself and in the world. So I feel that, in a very immediate way, books built me up.
